At 77 years old I bought a small home in a leased-land park, thinking I could comfortably live out my life here. My lot rent goes up every year with seemingly no regard for inflation and I’m probably going to have to have move, but where?? Maybe a why should be asked—Why are the big hedge funds and money managers using this investment to extract wealth from the aging and vulnerable people? Additionally, I am further challenged by living on a fixed income with the decision to either eat or buy my medications?

More and more seniors, like me, are faced with the very real prospect of homelessness. My husband has many health concerns adding more stress, he can’t work any longer. Our children can’t help as they also struggle financially just to strive. They are and always will be our kids and we try to help them. It is a catch-22 that is getting worse with every rent increase.

So, is our future doomed to moving from our modest retirement home to a tent along with the millions of others nationwide.  I’m writing to all my legislators asking them to sponsor and support a bill to establish reasonable lot rent limits in the state of Arizona. Would you please help and write letters to your representatives who are there to serve all of us??
